Weightlifting is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic programme in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates. The two competition lifts in order are the snatch and the clean and jerk.[1]

Like powerlifting, the sport is open and inclusive to all ages, gender and sizes. Also, these lifts and their variations are often used in other sports’ training programs to develop speed, power and coordination.

At the highest levels it takes a lot of dedication and perseverance as you try to perfect these movements – but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it!
